Self-Strength

The foundation, the mirror and the compass

How people see themselves decides whether they dare to say what they need. Knowing how you work, being allowed to work that way and staying kind when it goes wrong: that is the ground the other six Strengths grow from.

What you may notice at work

  • Someone rarely asks for anything, even when things are clearly not going well.
  • A compliment is waved away, while criticism lingers for days.
  • Apologising in advance: "It's probably just me."

What helps

  • Ask when their work goes best, and what made that moment possible.
  • Name strengths concretely: what did you see, and what did it achieve?
  • Treat adjustments as conditions for good work, not as exceptions.
  • Offer Working with me: one page on how someone works best, in ordinary language, with no diagnosis needed.
