Intention-Strength Recruitment and selection
Abstract interview questions turned into concrete ones.
Many interview questions are abstract, open or hypothetical. People who take language literally, or who really want to get it right, then have to guess what you want to hear. A concrete question about real work gives a fairer picture, of every candidate.
When to use it
- I am inviting someone to an interview
Tip
Send the questions in advance with the invitation, and say in the interview that people can take a moment to think. Then you measure the work, not the speed of response.
What you fill in

Interview questions for the role of customer service adviser
1. Which two tasks from your last job or course did you enjoy most, and why?
2. Which task in your last job took the most energy, and what helped you with it?
3. The work of a customer service adviser is busy at times. Tell me about a busy period in your last job: what did you do, and what helped you then?
4. Tell me about a time a customer or colleague was unhappy. What exactly did you do, and what was the result?
5. Imagine you have three customers on the line at once. What would you do?
6. What have you learned in your work over the past year?
You do not need to write out your answers. The questions are here so you know what is coming. In the interview you are welcome to take a moment to think, and you can add anything by email afterwards.
